Caldwell County 4-H Community Service Opportunity

Caldwell County 4-H Community Service Opportunity

Central Texas Food Bank 
Thursday, October 26th, 2017 (Lockhart ISD student holiday)
9:00 am to 12:00 noon
Location in South Austin (approximately 25 minutes from Lockhart)

The Central Texas Food Bank serves Caldwell County. This three hour volunteer service activity will be warehouse food sorting. We will work as a designated group, so please contact Cole Heger at for instructions on registering as part of the 4-H group and details on the event. Deadline to respond to is Monday, October 23 by 5:00 p.m. This is a great opportunity to help our county and get three hours of community service you can use for 4-H and your other organizations.

Houston Calf Scramble

Calf Scramble papers due by November 15, 2017 to the Extension office.

Houston Stockshow Eligibility Requirements:

  1. Applicants must be enrolled in and considered eligible in a TX 4-H or FFA at the time of application and if selected , at the time of scramble.  Applicants MUST be United States citizens and MUST possess a valid social security number. 
  2. Applicants must be enrolled in and attending a public or private secondary school in the state of TX.
  3. Applicant must have reached their 14th, but NOT their 18th birthday on Jan. 1, 2018 and not be enrolled beyond their junior year in high school. 
  4. Applicant must be financially capable to supply any additional funds that may be needed to purchase the heifer or market steer and to feed and care for it. 
  5. Applicant must be able to provide suitable facilities for caring and developing breeding heifer or market steer.
  6. Applicant must be able to devote the appropriate time and attention to the calf and return to the 2019 Show with a heifer or steer that all parties involved will be proud to display.
  7. Applicant and his/her parents/guardian must be willing and the participant must be eligible to spend the required time away from school and other activities to exhibit and care for the heifer or steer at the 2019 Show. They must also have the required time it takes to submit all monthly reports, essays and scrapbook. 

Ultimate Scramble Championship Austin Stockshow

Scramble Papers Due Nov 15, 2017 in the Extension office by 4:30 p.m. 

Participants must have reached their 12th but not their 18th birthday on August 31, year prior to Show, and must not be enrolled beyond their junior year in High School.  Participants must be active participants in a FFA or 4-H program and reside in the state of Texas.
Rodeo Austin will not be responsible for any accidents which may occur to any contestant in USC before, during or after USC.

Calf Scramble for San Antonio

San Antonio Calf Scramble papers must be turned in by October 23, 2017 to the Extension Office. 

  1. Contestant must have reached their 12th, but not their 18th birthday on January 1, 2018 and not be enrolled beyond their Junior year in high school.   FFA and 4-H members must reside in the State of Texas and be active members of an FFA Chapter or 4-H Club. 
  2. All contestants must have a personal Social Security Number to be eligible to participate in the San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo.  Social Security Numbers must be recorded on any and all entry forms. 
  3. No contestant will be permitted to enter more than one scramble performance per year. Contestants may apply through 4-H or FFA, but not both. 
  4. Contestants may be awarded only one (1) San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo Calf Scramble Purchase Certificate during his or her FFA or 4-H career. 
  5. There will be 19 performances during the 2018 San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo, 24 contestants and 12 calves will be selected for each performance. Contestants and calves will be placed in the arena as determined by S.A.L.E. officials. 
  6. The San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo will not be responsible for any accidents which may occur to any contestant before, during, or after the Calf Scramble.
  7. Calf Scramble applicants should be aware of the time and financial commitment involved in raising a livestock project. 

Possible 4-H Projects
